Manchester Tram Station – Printed Glass

Manchester Tram Station – Printed Glass

The transformation of Deansgate-Castlefield was designed to create a greener environment within the city — with trees, a ‘"living wall’ and a complete revamp ensuring this stop, a gateway to the south of the city, will become an oasis right in the heart of Manchester.

The inbound island platform made from Romag curved toughened glass has a leaf design which was achieved through screen printing on glass. The print blends perfectly with the station’s green-themed credentials.

The Solution

Deansgate-Castlefield Railway Station has successfully undergone a complete transformation. The installation of trees, a living wall and a specialised island platform supplied by Romag has transformed the station into a greener environment, a breath of fresh air within the city.

As part of the full refurbishment, a third track layout at Deansgate-Castlefield incorporated the design for a new island platform which now forms a crucial part of the transformational Second City crossing work.

Dellner Romag's state-of-the-art toughened glass was manufactured to include a bespoke artistic image with an autumnal leaf print design which contributed to the unique garden-fresh atmosphere in the bus station, having synergy with the ‘greener’ theme. The leaf design has encompassed the environment theme into a unique, contemporary style.

Dellner Romag’s capability to produce printed glass is amongst the largest in the glass industry, and we are able to provide custom designs for the architectural and specialised vehicle markets. Virtually any design or RAL colour can be reproduced in ceramic ink which is fixed in and fused to the surface of toughened or heat strengthened glass.

The project has also demonstrated Romag’s ability to work on a project that spanned multiple markets, including the architectural, transport, and commercial sectors, showing essential versatility to get the job done.
